Counterfeit Pokémon game tops iTunes App Store charts

According to reports, QEAB developer’s counterfeit version of the Pokémon Yellow game is among the top-selling apps in the iTunes App Store --- the game ranks at the second spot on Apple's paid apps sales chart even despite the fact that it does not work!

The app – moving up the iTunes App Store charts for the most popular downloads - is available for $0.99; and its developer QEAB came up with a few similarly bogus versions of Digimon and Yu-Gi-Oh too, almost at the same time as the counterfeit copy of the Pokémon Yellow title.

Going by the details shared by some of the people who have purchased the fake PokeMon mobile game, though the app appears to download quite decently, it reportedly crashes the moment it reaches the start screen. Apparently, the game managed to slip past Apple’s less-than-rigid app approval process.

However, the fact that the fake Pokémon Yellow game has notched its way up at the iTunes App Store is a clear indication that there evidently are buyers for Pokémon games on iOS. In fact, the sales pitch for the Pokémon Yellow highlights that the game is "just like the original”, and actually even better because it can be played on “the most intuitive device ever - the iPhone.”

Meanwhile, the reports that the counterfeit Pokémon Yellow does not go beyond the title screen has prompted developer QEAB to extend its apologies for the “inconvenience” on its website which also says: “Thanks for your patience while we thoroughly investigate this issue.”
