Deals on big HDTVs before Super Bowl may be less super this year

According to Paul Gagnon of DisplaySearch, deals on new big-screen HDTVs before the Super Bowl – which is considered a good time to make savings – will probably not be as super this year as they were last year.

The key reason behind the chances of the pre-Super Bowl big TV sales being less super this time round apparently is the strong sales of TV sets during the holiday season --- a situation which was markedly different from the one witnessed a year back.

While retailers were stuck with unsold TV sets aplenty last year, and offered discounts in January to clear the shelves for the newer 2011 models, they will seemingly not have many sets on hand this year because of the notably good holiday season sales.

Noting that though there will be “a lot of advertising,” super savings in the big TV arena will actually be hard to find before Super Bowl this year, Gagnon said that it cannot be said for sure whether the deals will offered by the retailers this time will be “especially stellar.”

With Digital World Research’s PJ McNealy pointing out that consumers generally try to snap up TV sets either during Black Friday sales or wait for the NFL season to wind down in January, Gagnon explained: “A lot of consumers took advantage of those spectacular Black Friday prices and bought sets that they might have waited a little longer on.”
